NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and State Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman today announced that statewide student performance on the 2012 Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) improved for the second year in a row, as the state continues to push toward academic achievement through its First to the Top education reforms.
Corning Elementary’s Pre-K program will prepare early childhood students (ages 4 and 5) for Corning’s rigorous Kindergarten curriculum. Students will grow academically, socially, physically, and emotionally through their experiences in character development, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, music, art, and physical education.Corning’s Early Childhood department will also set the stage for parental involvement in our school. Parents and families will be asked routinely to participate in various aspects of thePre-K environment; thus building and maintaining a strong relationship between our classrooms and our students’ homes. Students and parents alike will be challenged to invest their time, energy, creativity, and talents in Corning’s Pre-K program. In return, Corning commits to firmly starting every Pre-K student on the path to college attendance, citizenship, and social responsibility.
This week’s announcement from the Achievement School District (ASD) authorizing high-performing charter management organizations – including Rocketship Education – to open and operate new schools, marks the beginning of an exciting opportunity to offer high-quality public education options to students in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee.
Our focus in the Achievement School District is transforming the 85 schools currently in the bottom 5% in the State. We believe that working with high-quality charter school organizations is a key lever in how we make this happen. Yesterday’s announcement is an incredibly exciting one because authorizing this group of charter partners marks a giant step towards accomplishing our big goal – that is, moving the bottom 5% of schools in Tennessee to the top 25% over the next five years.
